 Front Line is deeply saddened by the assassination of human rights defender and community leader Walberto Hoyos Rivas on 14 October 2008. Walberto Hoyos Rivas was a member of the Comisión Intereclesial de Justicia y Paz (CIJP) based in the humanitarian district of Caño Manso in the zone of Curbaradó, Chocó, Colombia, where he worked on behalf of displaced people. 
 Jackeline Rojas is a prominent human rights defender in Colombia. She is the oordinator and legal representative for the Organisation Femenina Popular in Magdalena Medio, Colombia. Jackeline Rojas and the OFP work to empower women and those who say no to war and violence. Human rights defenders are the objects of constant surveillance and attacks in Colombia. 
 Front Line is deeply concerned following reports of the attack against human rights defender Luisa Fernanda Malo Rodríguez, member of the Fundación Esperanza (Hope Foundation), an organisation working in the defence of the rights of displaced peoples, migrants, and of women and girls who have been victims of exploitation. 
 Front Line is deeply concerned following reports of renewed threats against the Espacio de Trabajadores y Trabajadoras de Derechos Humanos – ETTDH (Space of Human Rights Workers), a platform of human rights organisations based in the city of Barrancabermeja and the region of Magdalena Medio, which includes the Organización Feminina Popular – OFP (Women's Popular Organisation), the Corporación Regional para la Defensa de los Derechos Humanos – CREDHOS (Regional Corporation for the Defence of Human Rights), the Programas de Desarrollo y Paz – PDP (Programmes for Peace and Development), the Unión Sindical Obrera – USO (Workers' Labour Union), the Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de Empresas Operadoras, Contratistas, Subcontratistas de Servicios y Actividades de la Industria del Petróleo, Petroquímica y Similares – SINDISPETROL (National Trade Union of Workers of Petroleum, Petrochemical and Related Contractors, Services Subcontractors and Activities), and the trade union of the company Colombian Fertilisers – FERTICOL. Front Line previously expressed its concern regarding threats made against these organisations in an urgent action of 25 June 2008. 
 Front Line is deeply concerned following reports of the abduction of human rights defenders José Arcos and María Antonia Amaya on 11 July 2008. José Arcos and María Antonia Amaya are both community leaders in the department of Nariño, José Arcos is also the vice-president of the community council in the municipality of Policarpa. 
 Front Line is deeply concerned following reports that there have been death threats made against a number of non-governmental organisations, all members of the Espacio de Trabajadores y Trabajadoras de Derechos Humanos (ETTDH – Human Rights Workers' Coalition), allegedly sent by the paramilitary group, the “Águilas Negras (Black Eagles)”. The ETTDH is a network of social organisations and human rights defenders' organisations in Barrancabermeja and the region of the Magdalena Medio. 
 Front Line is deeply concerned following reports of death threats against members of human rights organisations Fedeagromisbol, Sembrar and ElPrograma de Desarrollo y Paz del Magdalena Medio, as well as priests from the region of Sur de Bolívar, received on 10 April 2008. These organisations promote mining and agricultural projects and support local communities in Sur de Bolívar. 
 Front Line is deeply concerned following information received concerning death threats against four human rights defenders during the month of March 2008: Isabelino Valencia, the legal representative for the region of Lower Naya, and Frank William Cayapur Delgado, Edward Mina Cuero and Yimi Armando Jansasoy Muñoz who work with the human rights organisation, the Comisión Intereclesial de Justicia y Paz (Intereclesial Commission for Justice and Peace). 
 Front Line is deeply concerned following information received of a plan to assassinate human rights defender David Ravelo Crespo. David Ravelo Crespo is Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Corporación Regional para la Defensa de los Derechos Humanos - Credhos (Regional Corporation for the Defence of Human Rights), a non-governmental organisation dedicated to the protection and promotion of human rights in Colombia. 
 Front Line is deeply concerned following reports of death threats made against lawyer and human rights defender José Humberto Torres, who works with Fundación Comité de Solidaridad con los Presos Políticos – FCSPP (Political Prisoners Solidarity Committee). José Humberto Torres has provided legal representation for many human rights defenders and political prisoners in Colombia over the past 27 years. He attended the Fourth Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders, organised by Front Line on 22-24 November 2007. 
 Front Line is deeply concerned following the physical assault and death threats made against Yolanda Becerra Vega, President of the Organización Femenina Popular – OFP (Popular Women's Organisation). 
 Front Line is extremely concerned following reports of a campaign of judicial harassment against members of the Asociación Campesina del Valle del Río Cimitarra – ACVC (Peasant Association of Cimitarra River Valley). Eighteen members of the ACVC currently face judicial procedures, including Andrés Gil, Óscar Duque (pictured), Mario Martínez and Evaristo Mena, who were arrested on 29 August 2007 and are still detained at Modelo prison in Bucaramanga. 
 Front Line is extremely concerned at an assassination attempt made on the lives of the human rights defenders Miguel Hoyos and Ualberto Hoyos. The two men are brothers and are members of the Comisión Intereclesial de Justicia y Paz (CIJP), based in the Zone of Curbaradó, Chocó, where they work on behalf of displaced people and community leaders. 
 Front Line is concerned following reports of threats issued against a number of human rights organisations operating in Magdalena Medio, in the region of Barrancabermeja, including: Unión Sindical Obrera (the Workers Union, USO), Corporación Regional para la Defensa de los Derechos Humanos (Regional Cooperation for Human Rights, CREDHOS), the Corporación Desarrollo y Paz del Magdalena Medio (Cooperation for Peace and Development in Magdalena Medio, CDPMM), the Organización Femenina Popular (Popular Feminine Organisation, OFP) and the Asociación de Campesinos del Valle del Río Cimitarra (Rural Workers Association of Valle del Río Cimitarra, ACVC). 
 Front Line is concerned following reports of threats against Iván Cepeda Castro, of the Movimiento Nacional de Víctimas de Crímenes del Estado (National Movement for Victims of State Crime) and Hernando Meneses Velaides, Human Rights Secretary of the Unión Sindical Obrera (Workers Union USO), on 17 August 2007. Iván Cepeda Castro, along with other human rights defenders, has been involved in documenting approximately 40,000 cases of serious human violations committed in Colombia since 1996.
