Further Information

Hebal Abel Koloy is also a respected teacher working in a school set up by the Government of Tripura. On 26th of October Hebal Abel Koloy was arrested at his home and taken to the police station where he was charged with having links to the armed opposition group and waging war against the state on the basis of the speech he gave at a meeting in Geneva. Each time he was granted bail the police lodged another case against him which meant that he spent 6 months in jail before the High Court finally granted him bail.

Ordering his release the Court ruled that his arrest had been arbitrary and that the repeated attempts to prosecute him constituted a type of political harassment. Four cases are still pending against him.
