Brazil: Update - Investigation into murder of human rights defender Adelino “Dinho” Ramos closed after the killing of the main suspect
Adelino “Dinho” RamosOn 2 February 2012, judge Gonçalves da Silva Filho from the Rodonian Tribunal (2ª Vara do Tribunal do Júri de Rondônia) decided to close the case against Osias Vicente, accused of killing human rights defender Adelino “Dinho” Ramos on 27 May 2011.
Osias Vicente was murdered last month in the city of Vista Alegre de Abunã, Rondônia State, the same location where Dinho was shot dead last year.
The Public Ministry stated that it was not possible to continue the proceedings after the killing of Osias Vicente and requested that the case be closed. By closing the lawsuit, police investigations into the possible intellectual authors of the crime will be discontinued.
