Yemen: UPDATE – Human rights defender Mr Yasre Al-Wazeer sentenced to 8 years in prison
On 17 January 2009, the penal court which serves as a State Security Court sentenced human rights defender Mr Yasre Al-Wazeer to 8 years in prison. Yasre Al-Wazeer is a member of the Yemeni Organsiation for the Defence of Rights and Democratic Freedoms (YODRFD).

Yasre Al-Wazeer has been detained arbitrarily since 1 July 2008, allegedly as a result of his activities as a member of the Yemeni Organsiation for the Defence of Rights and Democratic Freedoms (YODRFD), which campaigns for the protection of the rights of detainees, particularly those related to the Sa'da conflict in Yemen. On 1 November 2009, after 16 months in detention and in a closed hearing, Yasre Al-Wazeer was officially charged with forming an armed group.
