Washington DC: Addis Neger announces new collaborative web site to bypass state persecution of the media in Ethiopia
Washington DC, Addis Neger Publishing is proud to announce that it is launching a daily collaborative news site, addisnegeronline.com, on 11 May 2010. Run by former founders and editors of Addis Neger newspaper, which folded in December 2009, owing to government persecution of its staff, this new initiative creates a virtual community which is involved in sourcing, production and distribution of content.
Statement by Editor of Addis Neger
I would like to share the good news of our web site, addisnegeronline.com, launched officially as of today. On behalf of the founders and friends of Addis Neger newspaper, I thank you all of you individually and at organization level for being on our side during this trying time. We couldn't have even imagine about this website without your encouragement and support.
We will be committed to produce an independent alternative platform on issues of Ethiopia and the horn. The challenge ahead of us is not an easy one, particularly for those committed and brave sources at home. The website might also be blocked any time in Ethiopia. However, with your support and encouragement, we will continue to strive to provide an informative and participatory platform. Thank you again for being with us all along.
