The Third Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders, October 2005
Front Line hosted The Third Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders at Dublin Castle, 13th-15th October 2005.
The Third Dublin Platform brought together one hundred human rights defenders from seventy countries. Each of the participants were selected on the basis that they are at risk because of their human rights work in their own country.
The human rights defenders discussed the changing nature of the threats that they face and what measures can be most effective to ensure their protection. There were specific workshops on the Protection Manual for Human Rights Defenders and on electronic communications and security. Participants also discussed progress on the EU Guidelines on the protection of Human Rights Defenders and the specific and additional risks that women face as human rights defenders.
