According to police sources, the body of Floribert Chebeya Bahizire was found in the back of his car on the morning of 2 June 2010 in the outskirts of Kinshasa, after his disappearance had been reported on the evening of 1 June 2010. Read More

Human rights defender and lawyer Mr Ernesto Rábago Martínez was assassinated in his office in the state of Chihuahua on 2 March 2010. Ernesto Rábago Martínez was a member of Bowerasa (Haciendo Camino) , a not-for-profit civil association working to support the indigenous peoples of the Tarahumara sierra, in the municipal of Carichí, Chihuahua, in the defence of their land, culture and health rights. Read More

Further to the Urgent Appeal issued in relation to death threats against human rights defender Leocadio Juracán and the intimidation of other members of Comité Campesino del Altiplano - CCDA, which is part of the Labour, Indigenous, and Peasant Movement of Guatemala (MSICG), Front Line regrets to announce that, on 17 February 2010, at aproximately 5:30p.m. Mr Octavio Roblero, leader of of the natural resources protection and resistance front (FRENA) affiliated to the national front for the defence of public services and natural resources (FNL) which is part of MSICG, was assassinated. Read More

Honduras: Assassination of LGBTI human rights defender Mr Walter Orlando Trochez

Front Line is deeply saddened to report that on 13 December 2009, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex (LGBTI) human rights defender Mr Walter Orlando Trochez was shot and killed in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Walter Orlando Trochez was an active member of the “Centro de Investigación y Promoción de los Derechos Humanos” –CIPRODEH (Centre for the Investigation and Protection of Human Rights) and had also taken part in the National Resistance Front against the Honduran coup d'état. Read More

On 27 November 2009, at approximately 7.45pm, Mr Mariano Abarca Roblero was assassinated in Chicomuselo, the seat of municipal government in Chiapas. Mariano Abarca Roblero was a member of the human rights organisation Dos Valles Valientes (“Two Brave Valleys”), a movement opposed to mining operations, and was a follower of la Red Mexicana de Afectados por la Mineríá (REMA - the Mexican Network of those Affected by Mining). Read More

Philippines: Assassination of human rights defender Mr Datu Badbaran and continuing threats against his family

Front Line is deeply saddened to report that on 28 September 2009, human rights defender Mr Aladino “Datu Mansubaybay” A. Badbaran was killed in an ambush by unidentified armed men in Barangay Balit, San Luis, Agusan del Norte in the Philippines. His wife, Mrs Demesia Badbaran, received a gunshot wound to the shoulder during the attack. Read More

Russian Federation: Assassination of human rights defender Mr Maksharip Aushev

Front Line is saddened by the death of Mr Maksharip Aushev in the Russian province of Ingushetia, who was shot and killed on 25 October 2009. Maksharip Aushev was driving on a major highway in the neighbouring province of Kabardino-Balkaria when a passing vehicle reportedly sprayed his car with more than 60 bullets, killing him and seriously wounding a passenger. Read More
