Human rights defender Mr Salvator Muhindo was assassinated on the night of 29-30 June 2010 in Kalungata, in the province of Nord-Kivu. Salvator Muhindo was a member of the organisation Le Bon Samaritain (The Good Samaritan), which is based in Beni. 

Human rights defender Mr Clodomiro Castilla Ospina was shot dead in Montería in Northern Colombia on 19 March 2010. Clodomiro Castilla Ospina was the editor and publisher of the local magazine El Pulso del Tiempo and a reporter with the Bloque Informativo at the Voz de Montería radio station. 

On 27 November 2009, at approximately 7.45pm, Mr Mariano Abarca Roblero was assassinated in Chicomuselo, the seat of municipal government in Chiapas. Mariano Abarca Roblero was a member of the human rights organisation Dos Valles Valientes (“Two Brave Valleys”), a movement opposed to mining operations, and was a follower of la Red Mexicana de Afectados por la Mineríá (REMA - the Mexican Network of those Affected by Mining). 

Front Line is deeply saddened to report that on 28 September 2009, human rights defender Mr Aladino “Datu Mansubaybay” A. Badbaran was killed in an ambush by unidentified armed men in Barangay Balit, San Luis, Agusan del Norte in the Philippines. His wife, Mrs Demesia Badbaran, received a gunshot wound to the shoulder during the attack.
