Gégé Katana is a leading human rights defender working in Uvira, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Gégé Katana is the president of Solidarite des Femmmes Activistes pour la Defense des Droits Humains, SOFAD (Solidarity Movement of Women Human Rights Activists) an organisation that works through a grassroots network of 625 women to research and campaign against sexual violence, and provide counselling and help to rape survivors. SOFAD also educates local communities on women and children’s rights, and lobbies the government to deliver justice and reform discriminatory laws.
Gégé Katana has worked with several non-governmental organisations including; IDEA/Afrique - Institut pour le developpement et l’education des adultes. She is a network member of the Global Fund for Women and Coordinator for the Synergie des Femmes Defenseurs des Droits de le l'Homme du Sud-Kivu en RDC.
The scale and horror of sexual violence against women and girls in Eastern DRC prompted Gégé Katana to work with SOFAD.

Жеже Катана – президент Движения солидарности женщин-правозащитниц (SOFAD) – организации, созданной на базе сети из 625 женщин, занимающейся исследованиями и кампаниями по проблеме сексуального насилия и оказывающей консультативную и практическую помощь пережившим изнасилование. SOFAD также ведет просветительскую работу среди местных сообществ по правам женщин и детей и лоббирует правительство, требуя правосудия и реформирования дискриминационного законодательства.
Жеже Катана сотрудничает с несколькими неправительственными организациями, включая IDEA/Afrique – Институт развития и образования взрослых. Она является членом сети Глобального женского фонда и координатор сети женщин-правозащитниц «Совместные действия правозащитниц провинции Южный Киву в ДРК».
Ужасающие масштабы и жестокость сексуального насилия в отношении женщин и девочек на востоке ДРК побудили Жеже Катана начать работу в SOFAD.
Lydia Cacho Ribeiro a leading Mexican defender of children’s and women’s human rights narrowly escaped an assassination attempt by means of sabotage of an official vehicle she was traveling in from the city of Juarez in Mexico City on 7 May 2007.
Выдающаяся мексиканская защитница прав детей и женщин Лидия Качо Рибейро чудом избежала гибели во время покушения 7 мая этого года, когда направлялась в служебном автомобиле из города Хуареза в Мексико-Сити.
В момент инцидента правозащитницу сопровождали трое полицейских. В ходе своей деятельности Лидия Качо Рибейро неоднократно получала угрозы смертельной расправы, а также привлекалась к судебной ответственности с целью помешать ее деятельности. Водитель машины, в которой находилась правозащитница, был вынужден сделать аварийную остановку. Когда сотрудники осмотрели машину, то обнаружили, что шина и колесо почти полностью развалились. Оказалось, что был сделан прокол с целью спровоцировать аварию. 8 мая 2007 г. Лидия Качо Рибейро с помощью адвоката Хавьера Олеа обратилась к властям с просьбой расследовать этот инцидент как попытку убийства и произвести тщательный осмотр автомобиля, а также опросить всех, кто мог иметь к нему доступ.
Лидия Качо Рибейро является основателем и руководителем Кризисного центра и приюта (CIAM) в Канкуне для жертв сексуального насилия и преступлений, связанных с половой принадлежностью, а также торговли людьми.
نجت ليديا كاتشو ريبيرو، مدافعة مكسيكية رائدة عن حقوق الأطفال و النساء من محاولة اغتيال من خلال تخريب مركبة رسمية، بينما كانت تتنقل في مدينة خواريز في مكسيكو سيتي في السابع من أيار 2007. و كان ثلاثة ضباط يرافقون ليديا كاتشو ريبيرو من المطار عند تعرضها لمحاولة اعتيال. و قد أدى نشاط ليديا كاتشو ريبيرو في تلقيها تهديدات مستمرة بالقتل، و مضايقات قضائية لإسكات جهودها. و كان السائق قد اضطر إلى التوقف، و عندما خرج الضباط من السيارة، أدركوا أن كلاً من الإطار و العجلة ذاتها كانا على وشك الانفصال عن المركبة وبدا وكأنه فعلٌ متعمد قصد به التسبب بحادثة. وفي الثامن من أيار، طالبت ليديا كاتشو ريبيرو مع محاميها، خافيير أوليا، بأن يتضمن التحقيق في حادثة القتل المدَّعاة معاينة دقيقة للمركبة و الاستعلام عن الأشخاص الذين يحتمل أنهم تمكنوا من الوصول إلى السيارة. و قد أسست ليديا كاتشو ريبيرو و تدير المركز الأساسي لمساعدة النساء، في كانكون، و هو مركز أزمات و مأوى لضحايا الجرائم الجنسية، العنف القائم علىنوع الجنس (الجندر) و التهريب. و يوفر المركز خدمات مجانية لأي شخص يطلب المساعدة و الحماية. ان كثيراً من هؤلاء النساء و الفتيات ممن يطلبن المأوى هن من الهاربات من مجرمين عتاة. و ليديا كاتشو ريبيرو هي أيضاً صحافية تعمل بالتحقيقات و متخصصة في العنف القائم على نوع الجنس ( الجندر).

Gégé Katana es una destacada defensora de derechos humanos de Uvira, región oriental de la República Democrática del Congo (RDC). Es presidenta del Solidarite des Femmmes Activistes pour la Defense des Droits Humains, SOFAD (Movimiento de Solidaridad de las Mujeres Activistas de Derechos Humanos), una organización de base que trabaja a través de una red de 625 mujeres en investigación y realización de campañas contra la violencia sexual, así como en asesoría y ayuda a mujeres sobrevivientes de violaciones sexuales. SOFAD también educa a las comunidades locales en derechos de las mujeres y los niños, y realiza labores de cabildeo para obtener justicia y lograr una reforma a las leyes discriminatorias.
Gégé Katana ha trabajado en varias organizaciones no gubernamentales, entre ellas el IDEA –Instituto Africano por el Desarrollo y la Educación de las personas adultas.
