Fear of ill treatment and torture of Yemeni human rights defender

‘Ali al-Dailami, Executive Director of the Yemeni Organization for the Defense of Democratic Rights and Freedom is reportedly being held incommunicado and may be at risk of torture and ill treatment since his arrest and detention on 9 October 2006.

‘Ali al-Dailami was due to take part in a human rights partnership meeting in Copenhagan when he was arrested at the capital’s airport He has previously campaigned on behalf of his brother, cleric Yahia al-Dailami, who was sentenced to death in May 2005. Yahia al-Daliami's death sentence was commuted and he was eventually released.

Front Line is deeply concerned for the health and safety of 'Ali al-Dailami and urges the Yemen authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Ali al-Dailami, reveal his whereabouts and take all measures to guarantee that  the treatment of 'Ali al-Dailami, while in custody, adheres to conditions set out in the ‘Basic Principles for Treatment of Prisoners, adopted by General Assembly resolution 45/11.
