Iran: Esha Momeni, Member of the Iranian One Million Signatures Campaign released on bail

Case Update

Esha Momeni Iranian-American student who had returned to Iran to complete her thesis involving a film documentary on women's situation -arrested on 15 October 2008-, has been released on a 198000 dollar bail from Evin prison. According to Reza Momeni, her father, Esha is not allowed to leave Iran and has to be present in a political court hearing on charges of "acting against national security and propagating against the government". Uzbekistan: Mutabar Tadjibaeva released from prison

Uzbek human rights defender Mutabar Tadjibaeva was released from the Tashkent Women’s Prison where she had been frequently detained in solitary confinement in the psychiatric wing of the prison. Mutabar Tadjibaeva was arrested while on her way to attend the Front Line Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders and subsequently sentenced to eight years in prison.  Read More

Uzbekistan: Political prisoners amnestied in Uzbekistan

The Main Directorate for the Administration of Punishment under the authority of the Interior Minister of Uzbekistan ordered the release of a prominent Uzbek human rights activist and journalist Umida Niyazova on February 2, the Uzbek website Newsuz.com reported. Sudan: Front Line concerned at ongoing detention of remaining Kajbar Dam campaigner

All Khajbar Dam campaigners released

Front Line welcomes the release of human rights defenders Al Khatib Mohamed Salim, Maisara Izzeldin Mohamed Munowar, Faroug Nuri, Daoud Suliman, Isam Mohamed Fagir and Nazmi Mohamed Hamid on 13 September and Nazmi Mohamed Hamid’s brother Nayif Mohamed Hamid, on 12 September. All had been arrested between 27 and 29 August 2007 and are campaigners against the construction of the Kajbar Dam, in the Nubian area of northern Sudan. They were being detained in Dongola prison. Hisham Abbas, a member of the Kajbar Dam Committee, is the remaining campaigner who continues to be in detention in Dongola prison.  Read More

Iranian human rights defender freed

A prominent philosopher and writer was released on bail on 31 August after four months in prison in Iran. Dr Ramin Jahanbegloo, who holds dual Canadian-Iranian citizenship, was arrested on 27 April at Tehran's Mehrabad airport on his return from India for “having contacts with foreigners” To read about his arrest click here
